COSMETIC & THERAPEUTIC INJECTIONS

Look like you with the confidence of smoother skin. Botulinum toxin works beneath the surface of the skin to temporarily relax the underlying muscles that cause facial lines and diminish their appearance, so they look visibly smoother. Every day smiling, talking, frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows can form facial lines. Over time, repeated muscle contractions create furrows, wrinkles, and fine lines between the brows, across the forehead, and around the eyes. Small quantities of botulinum toxin can be used to relax the muscles, which cause the wrinkles in the face and neck. Botulinum toxin interestingly enough can also be used to treat migraines and excessive sweating.
Botulinum toxin treatment is the most common non-surgical procedure worldwide and will be performed by a skilled Registered Nurse injector. This procedure is mildly invasive and safe, and the incidence of severe side effects is very minute. During a treatment of botulinum toxin, tiny injections are targeted to smooth lines and wrinkles. This procedure causes natural-looking results which can take effect gradually over two weeks following your treatment and can last up to 3 or 6 months. Expect peak results between 2-4 weeks, so keep this in mind when planning for a special event. The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes with no downtime.

What To Do after Treatment?

After the botulinum toxin procedure, we will review the post-care recommendations to ensure optimal results after the procedure. We recommend being mindful of your activity for 4-6 hours after your treatment, allowing it to take effect.
Common recommendations include refraining from:
-
exercising
-
lying down
-
bending over
-
rubbing or touching the injection sites
-
applying makeup over the injection sites
The injection sites may be slightly raised for about an hour until the product is fully absorbed. As with any injection, you may observe tenderness, redness, and mild bruising. Most issues resolve within a few hours. By the next day, patients can usually go about their regular schedule.

Does Botulinum Toxin have Side Effects?
The procedure can result in some unwanted results or cause harm if it’s given incorrectly. Some possible side effects include:
-
Pain
-
Slight bleeding
-
swelling or bruising at the injection site: Over the counter analgesic can be taken for the pain if necessary. If the pain persists and/or worsens, please speak to your healthcare provider.
-
Very Rare: Droopy eyelids or crooked eyebrows can occur related to botulinum toxin migration. If this occurs, it could last until the effects of the injection wears off (about 3-6 months).
Some other side effects have been reported following botulinum toxin use but most are usually mild and resolve in 24-hours or less. Such side effects may include nausea, facial tightness, dry-mouth, sore-throat, headache, or flu-like symptoms, etc. If these symptoms persist or worsen, you may need to seek medical attention.
When Should I not use Botulinum Toxin?
As a rule, health care providers don't recommend botulinum toxin if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you are taking any other medications, please inform your doctor before getting botulinum toxin.
